Meaning:
There were several Earl Greys, perhaps this is the one the tea is named after: Charles Grey, son of General Sir Charles Grey, was born at Fallodon on March 13, 1764. He was granted the title Earl Grey. At twenty-two, he became a Member of Parliament for Northumberland.

Earl Grey tea is one of the most popular tea blends in the western world. It was a gift from China to the Earl Grey. It derives its distinct taste from the Oil of Bergamot. This highly aromatic oil is derived from Citrus bergamia of the Rutaceae family. Bergamot oil is cold pressed from the fruit peel of the rind of the fruit of this small tree, found mostly in Italy. It has a sweet & fruity scent. The quality and flavor of Earl Grey tea depends on the base tea and the quality and amount of oil used.

Jean-Luc Picard is the Captain of the Star Trek(tm) second series Enterprise-D (NCC-1701-D)(tm). On the show, he is always seen drinking hot Earl Grey tea.

Example(s):
Come to think of it, I would like a hot cup of Earl Grey tea now, too!
