*****************************************************

Part 5 is sometimes called Fill in the Blanks or Incomplete Sentences. This part of the test is based on grammar at the one and two word level, as well as vocabulary.

A typical question has a sentence with one or more words left out. There is an underline showing where the words go. Then, there are four choices.

A sample question might look like this:

While reading is a leisure activity for __________ people, there are millions of Americans who still can not read.

a) millions

b) countless

c) that number of

d) a

Of course, the answer is b) countless.

Some things to pay particular attention to include:

adverbs of frequency
conjunctions
prefixes and suffixes, especially those from Greek and Latin
pronouns
verb tenses, passive voice
among others

We will study these topics in the coming lessons.
