The TOEIC® is the Test of English for International Communication, a test for non-native speakers in a business or working environment. It is produced by the Educational Testing Service (ETS), in the USA. Today, it is used by many companies, schools and organizations in many countries of the world.
It consists of 200 questions, 100 listening and 100 reading.
The listening portion of the test is given by cassette tape. It consists of four sections, two of which have 20 questions and two which have 30 questions. This portion of the test last about 45 minutes.
The reading section has three parts, a fill in the blank section, with 40 items, an error recognition section, with 20 items, and a reading comprehension portion, consisting of 40 questions. To complete this part of the exam, the testee is given 75 minutes.
The official test is administered by ETS under strict security, the tests are graded by them and the results returned to the indivdual, school or business. Certain schools and businesses are allowed to administer an institutional test.
