Nick on Club Paradise

(c) 1998 by Nick Miller

Club Paradise was different from any naturist experience I had ever had in my life. That includes the several American camps, C.O. beaches, and variety of Japanese onsen, which I have visited.

The first thing that struck me was the large scale and professionalism / commercialism about the place! Now, don't get me wrong, I like the basic, down-to-earth naturist camp, but this place had a certain air of sophistication about it. Granted, it isn't for everyone, but for those with the time and money, it is a very special place.

The facilities are too big to even begin to explain. Please see their page for more details about the 'what' and such. After about 36 hours from door-to-door, my first night I had dinner, a few drinks and sat in the cooler of the two hot tubs. I had an interesting experience, which room does not allow me to go into detail, but I have to say the staff is very decent. They had arranged a guided tour for me the next morning, but, regrettably, with the fatigue from a trans-pacific and back-to-back trans-continental flight, I slept in until 5 PM! They graciously gave me the tour anyway, the following morning.

As for the people side, I have to say the staff is friendly and 'customer-service oriented'. Unlike more basic camps, it is a little harder to get to know the visitors here. I do have to admit I did strike up conversations with some of the visitors in the pools/baths and the bars. However, if you want to get some quiet time by yourself, that would be a plus.

Before I went, I engaged in email with the staff and with some friends. One friend had given me a negative report, saying that 'swinging' was a common occurrence. Another friend gave me a very positive report, saying he and his wife spent their honeymoon there and had a great time.

On a recommendation level, I have to say that, over all, it is 'good'. While it is overly commercial for a naturist place, it is listed as clothing optional rather than nudist. However, I was glad for that, as I wore my Nagano Olympic sweatshirt for warmth most of my three days there... I was freezing in April (98). If you are looking for a budget vacation this is not the place. However, if you enjoy being pampered with gourmet restaurants, massages, boutiques and cocktail lounges, and price is not a concern, then this is the place for you. Oh! And as my one friend did... if you have a special occasion and want to splurge, this is the place to do it!

Final comment... as I joined AANR at the Club, I became an 'official member' of the club. For what that is worth ;-{)))
