A recipe for Sangria
Sangria, a cool Spanish summer wine punch
For a delicious Spanish meal to enjoy with this drink, try the paella.
I enjoyed this drink while sitting on the beach in Malaga. Here is my version of the recipe:
Ingredients:
- 1 bottle sweet red wine
- 2 or 3 whole cloves or a pinch of powdered cloves
- a little sugar, to taste, if desired
- an orange, washed and sliced in wedges so people can eat it
- a lime, sliced
- a lemon, sliced
- 4 to 6 maraschino cherries with a few tablespoons of the juice
- some grapes, optional
- an apple, pear or peach, washed and sliced, optional
- some strawberries, optional
How to make it:
- 1. Wash and slice the fruit.
- 2. Dissolve the sugar and clove powder (if the powder is used) in a little wine.
- 3. Add the rest of the wine, fruit and whole cloves (if used) to pitcher or punch bowl.
- 4. Hang some grapes (still on the stem) or a long orange or lemon peel on the pitcher or bowl for decoration.
- 5. Let sit for about one hour.
- 6. Serve. Add ice cubes, if desired.
- 7. Make another batch. Serve. :-{)
- 8. Make another batch. Serve. :-{))
- 9. Make another batch. Serve. :-{)))
- 10. Make another batch. Serve. :-{)))))
Warning: The fruit can be dangerous! It absorbs the alcohol, and is quite tasty. If you serve this around a party, watch out, as children seem to love the fruit - and can easily become drunk!
